's The federal government has changed the rules for foreign students studying STEM subjects. The old rule permitted students to remain in the U.S. for 12 months after graduation. In addition, those studying STEM subjects were permitted to apply for a 17-month extension. The new rule extends the extension to 24 months. Plus, the student can apply for these extensions twice. The student can apply for an extension after obtaining a bachelor's degree and again after obtaining a master’s degree.
